PRESSURE MANAGEMENT
The Tempur-Med mattress provides a therapeutic level of pressure reduction equivalent or greater than products claiming to provide “pressure relief” (less than 32 mmHg).* The efficiency of weight distribution provided by Tempur-Medical advanced therapy powered mattresses compares favourably with a fluidized bed.

LOW RESILIENCE
Being a viscous substance, Tempur material acts in a fluid-like manner. Rather than compressing, it displaces under a load, maintaining very low pressure gradients (peaks). This is a significantly different mechanism than pressure distribution associated with standard types of foam. When high-resilience foam reaches maximum compression, a form of “bottoming out” is experienced. Even though low average interface pressure readings are claimed, comparably high pressure gradients are often experienced. The mechanism is not difficult to understand. Gross distribution of body weight is responsible for the average interface pressure, but the most deeply immersed body parts may have already fully compressed the foam before the body is finished immersing. Pressure at these points can only increase with additional immersion and high peak pressures may be observed. The gradient between the peak and the average represents a shunt, forcing blood flow away from the area, resulting in tissue ischemia.

MOISTURE RESISTANT
The covers used on all Tempur-Medical mattresses are stretchable, monolithic cast-coated polyurethane. This provides a vapour-permeable, moisture impervious barrier. It will neither absorb nor allow fluids to pass through it.

SANITARY
Tempur material is produced using a permanent anti-microbial agent to preclude growth. Vapour permeable, moisture impervious cover can be cleaned with standard hospital disinfectants. The cover can be machine washed and dried at low temperatures. (DO NOT use chlorine products on any Tempur-Medical product).
